Sambalpur, other parts of Western Odisha shut

By TNN, India
Normal life was thrown out of gear in Sambalpur on 20th Feb following the nationwide bandh call given by various trade unions in protest against 'anti-people' policies of the Congress-led UPA government. With the support of various local unions including LICemployees union, Telecom employees union, bank employees and officers unions, the bandh was quite successful in Sambalpur and other parts of western Odisha.
Commercial and business establishments, banks, government offices, daily market and other institutions remained shut. Central government offices, including post office and telecom office, also remained closed due to the support of employees. The office of the collector and the RDC were closed down as well following picketing by agitators. Buses and trucks remained off highways due to picketing by agitators. However, the corporate office of MCL at Burla remained opened. Educational institutions were excluded from the bandh too because of the ongoing annual examinations.
