Though Rahul Gandhi, Vice President of the Indian National Congress Party was not scheduled to hold a public meeting in Sambalpur, the state Congress machinery carpet-bombed the town with larger than life cutouts, banners and posters of the party vice-president on Monday.

Coincidentally, Odisha Jan Morcha leader Pyarimohan Mohapatra's posters also cropped up at many places in the run up to his February 22 2013 rally here, lending the town an election ambience.
